The People Behind Basic Needs

A team with deep, hands-on experience across nonprofit operations, logistics, the trades, construction, and marketing — united by a belief that working families deserve a real shot.

Jonah Gorenstein

Founder

Jonah founded Basic Needs and leads its mission and growth. He previously built and ran the Feeding the Homeless Club, which delivered more than 10,000 meals to people in need — coordinating the volunteers, funding, and day-to-day logistics that made it work. That experience is the foundation Basic Needs is built on.

Ben Kulbac

Director of Operations

Ben oversees the organization's day-to-day operations and logistics. He built and scaled a Manhattan-based online marketing company from the ground up, and brings that same organizational leadership to running reliable, repeatable food-rescue operations.

Jason Olofsen

Director of Marketing & Outreach

Jason leads marketing, storytelling, and community outreach. A widely followed YouTuber and content creator whose work has drawn partnerships with major brands, he has a gift for connecting with people and bringing energy and warmth to everything he touches.

Thomas Young

Board Member

Thomas brings significant nonprofit experience, having served in managerial and supervisory roles at an organization providing home-repair services to underserved communities across the country.

Julian Moore

Board Member

Julian is a skilled tradesperson with his own nonprofit ventures and extensive hands-on volunteer experience. He grounds the board in practical, on-the-ground know-how.

Shmuel Salamon

Board Member

Shmuel is the owner and operator of a Five Towns construction company, with deep experience building and scaling organizations and serving the needs of his community.

Rebecca Mayer

Board Member

Rebecca is a seasoned marketing executive who helps guide Basic Needs' long-term vision, goals, and strategic planning.
